Those on the lookout for exciting local companies or the proprietors of mobile or home-based businesses will not want to miss the 2012 Business Expo, where numerous San Tan Valley small businesses will gather under one roof.
The expo will take place Aug. 11 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the Poston Butte High School gymnasium and registration is going on now.
The event was organized by local business owner Carrie Ribeiro. her home-based business, glitZZed.com, sells embellished and modified clothing for men, women and children. ?I do the bling,? Ribeiro laughs.
Ribeiro explained that she was working at home one night when she thought about others in the same position. ?I was up making some orders and wondered who else was up late working,? she recalled.
Wanting to network with other home-based businesses, she started a Facebook group called East Valley Home Based Business Group.
Right away, the response was impressive. ?It got huge,? she said. ?I had 240 members within 24 hours.? the group currently has 380 members.
What began as an idea for an in-home sales event grew into a business expo with lots of excited participants. Ribeiro said home-based businesses are caught in a snag because of the small size of their operations. ?Nobody knows that we?re here,? she said. ?They pass us by to go to Mesa or Phoenix.?
